Aware Of Pause Between Thoughts
THE ART OF MENTAL HYGIENE
A 20-Minute Daily Guide to Finding the "Gap"
"Meditation is not the act of stopping thoughts, but the art of witnessing them."
1. Preparation (2 Minutes)
Find Your Space: Sit in a quiet corner where you won’t be disturbed.
Posture: Keep your spine naturally upright but relaxed. Place your hands gently on your lap.
The Breath: Close your eyes. Take three deep, conscious breaths—inhaling through the nose and exhaling slowly through the mouth.
2. The Practice of Witnessing (15 Minutes)
This is the core of your 20-minute practice. Follow these three "No-Interference" rules:
Rule 1: Do Not Judge A thought is neither good nor bad. It is simply a vibration in the mind. If a thought of worry or a thought of joy arises, look at both with the same neutral eyes.
Rule 2: Do Not Interfere Do not try to stop the thought. Do not try to change it. Do not try to "fix" your mind. Let the mind be exactly as it is.
Rule 3: Just Watch Become a "Watcher." Imagine you are sitting on a riverbank, watching logs float by. You are not the log; you are the observer on the shore.
3. Discovering the "Gap" (The Silence)
As you watch a thought arrive and eventually leave, pay close attention to the transition:
The Going Thought: Watch the thought as it begins to fade and dissolve.
The Coming Thought: Wait for the very next thought to appear.
The Silence: In the tiny moment after the first thought has gone and before the next one has come, there is a Pause.
This Pause is the "Gap." This is pure silence. It is the space where your true self resides, free from the noise of the mind. Even if the gap lasts for only a microsecond, stay aware of that stillness.
4. Returning (3 Minutes)
Acknowledge the Stillness: Slowly bring your awareness back to your physical body.
The Transition: Do not jump up immediately. Feel the weight of your body against the chair or floor.
Carry the Gap: Realize that the "Silence of the Gap" is always there, even when you are busy. Carry this awareness into your next task.
